Today, Eric and I were hanging out and watching TV on the sofa. He pulled off a first, a good one, and something a long time in coming, for me. He stuck his face and front of mine, then leaned in and put his lips to mine, his "kiss." That's the first time he gave me kiss with out me asking for one. Ahhh, love that boy!

More fall pictures
Eric and Uncle David had some fun playing in the leaves at Grandma and Grandpa's...

Halloween
I said I was going to post older pictures... well I did get started on downloading some, then I got sidetracked. So, I figured I would at least try and keep up with the recent pictures. Here are a few from the other night. We didn't get a chance to go out to any fall/Halloween fun activities like corn mazes and pumpkin festivals. Too much rain and mud. We took Eric out back and let him play in the leaves and then to the front porch in an attempt to get him to sit for some pictures... HA!
The rest are from today. Eric got into my purse and found my cell phone. Then he was playing in a box, with my car keys.

Getting ready for Trick-or Treating. He was the Chick-fil-A cow... "Eat Mor Chikin" We went there for lunch today and had him in costume. One of the managers liked it so much the three of us got a free lunch. I thought maybe Eric might get a free meal, not all of us. Sometimes it pays to take your child out in a cow costume! He also got a ton of comments, some said that his was their favorite of the night.

Wild child
Needless to say, the surgery didn't slow Eric down at all! It took a lot to keep him from climbing and over doing it for a few weeks. We finally gave up, sooner than what the surgeon, I'm sure, would have liked. But she didn't RX any sedatives for me... I mean Eric. So, he's back to his wild child self. He saw the surgeon last week and is doing fine. He'll go back in a year for a follow up. Next up for him is seeing the cardiologist November 11 for an annual check up.
We starting potty training Eric last week. He's doing OK. I keep him in just underwear and a shirt when we're at home. Can't get him to tell us he needs to "tinkle." So, we end up with a puddle on the floor just about every day. He's good with telling us he needs to "poop." We try to take him to the bathroom every hour from the last time he went. Oh, how I wish he would tell us when he has to go! But, it's not the 10 pair of underwear he went through the first couple of days. He's down to about 3.
Looking forward to celebrating my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary on November 7th. My brothers and I are having an open house for them. Mom didn't want to make it anything big, so she came up with the open house. We're up to 40 people as of now. Just hope they spread it out! My oldest brother is in charge of the food. He has an Italian menu planned, yummy! I'm so happy that all of my immediate family will be there. We haven't all been together since my wedding 7 years ago. I will definitely need a picture of the ten of us.
My next post will more pictures, going waaaaay back.

Surgery
Eric's surgery Thursday went well. We were up at 0500, left at 0520, well tried. The van had a dead battery, so we switched to my car. Arrived at "same day surgery" at 0600, then after answering questions and such we were able to go with Eric to "induction room." He didn't like the mask too much, but went under without much trouble. We kissed him and left. Because I was able to be with him I didn't lose it. I was so afraid that I'd have to leave him when he was conscious and he would be crying and calling for us. But since I didn't, I got away just being a little teary eyed.
Fortunately, the next two hours went quickly. Paul and I had breakfast and sat and chatted with my cousin Michele, who so very nice to come and keep us company. Thank you Michele!!! Love ya! The surgeon talked with for a few minutes and told us the first thing he said was "mama." Awwww, love my boy! Everything went well. It was a large hernia. She even gave him a bellybutton but it won't look quite like yours and mine. Rats! Now he can't go to show n' tell and show off that he doesn't have a belly button. Oh well! We are supposed to keep him quiet for the next few weeks. Ha! Are sedatives being proscribed?
Next we went to recovery, where a nurse was holding him. He came to me and we rocked. Eric was very quiet and very good. A couple of other kids made their presence known. His said this was the first time she had seen the anesthesiologists (I spelled this right!) carry the patient out. When his room was ready, the two of us got a ride in a wheelchair.
Eric dosed off and on in our laps. Grandma and Grandpa stopped by before picking us up for dinner out. After returning, Paul stayed for a little while before heading home to take of the kitties. I stayed...boy did I miss my bed! Besides the bed being uncomfortable, the hallways were brightly lit (I did all I could to block the lights) and it was so noisy! Why was there a young child in the hall giggling at 2300? The staff wasn't very quiet. I wish we were in the wing where Eric has been previous...nice and quiet, lights were dim. Anyhoo, Eric slept fine, I did not. He woke up his usual self. He kept telling me he wanted to eat. Finally, he got some Fruit Loops to munch on. He ended up eating part of my hoggie bun, crackers and peanut butter too. There was this big whole thing about the resident wanting to put him on a feeding pump, I mean us taking him home with it too! We have never used a feeding pump for him! We didn't want to start! The resident thought that maybe he didn't have the room to expand when he was fed. And she wanted to keep at least one more night. Whoa! The surgeon said that if he OK pain wise he could go home that evening. Pain wise, he was great! Nothing was bothering this kid! Eventually, per our request, the surgeon was gotten a hold of and straightened out, yeah! We did two tubes feedings, our way, and since he tolerated that Eric was discharged about 1730. 36 hours in the hospital was long enough for Eric. He was so happy to go "bye bye."
A funny... before we left, the resident stopped in. Eric made his sign for gloves, which we translated to her. She got a pair out for him. He didn't want to wear them, he wanted her to. So, she put them on and then he pointed to his diaper. We laughed. He wanted her to change his diaper, which he did need a changing. The nurses always wore gloves when they changed his diaper. He's such a stinker!
We went home, changed clothes and went out for some Chinese. Eric ate the crunchy part of some cream cheese puffs, with dipping sauce, and some rice and carrots. Not a full meal, but we'll take it.
Eric woke up sore this morning, but some Motrin and Tylenol seemed to do the trick. We are trying our best to keep him from climbing and straining his belly, don't want any stitches coming out! He got a sponge bath tonight. Live and learn...the next one will done differently!
Here are some pictures Grandpa took last week, one cool dude who loves corn on the cob...

It's been a loooooong time...
Yes, I have been bad about updating here, I'm sorry! I'm going all the way back to April with the pictures. But I'll update on the Eric happenings...
He's still a two year old who's all boy. That says most of it right there. He loves being outside, no matter the weather. He's enjoying having daddy around, so am I. Paul made him a scooter he enjoys riding. The playground, especially the one at the "helicopter" park is his favorite place to play. We got him a $10 inflatable pool which he loves. His eating is better, even though he eats like a typical toddler. Still doesn't take in enough to stop the tube feedings, but we're getting there. If he could live off of Cocoa Krispies (favorite breakfast item), hot dogs, bread, corn on the cob, pasta and M&M's, he'd be good. He does like many other foods, but those are his favorite.
Eric will be the ring bearer in Paul's niece's wedding September 12th. That should be fun! And he will look so cute and handsome in a tux. I, silly me, am making the wedding cake. Hailey asked for it, so Hailey will get it...a chocolate cake with chocolate icing. After much thinking, pondering, facts from the bride and decision making, I have come up with what/how I'm going to do it. I just pray it all works out and Hailey is happy with it. It's our wedding gift to her. I say our because Paul does watch the terror while I work I things.
And finally, Eric will be having an abdominal hernia repaired on September 24th. Not looking forward to the 2 1/2 hour surgery and 2-3 day hospital stay. My poor baby!
On to the pictures! The first two are scans of a couple his 2 year old portrait sitting..
